Eating Stone Readings of Graceful and Good-Natured Prose from a Book by Naturalist Ellen Meloy
To read Ellen Meloy is to slow down, to discover patience and beauty in sitting still on a rock in Utah canyonland, watching sheep napping "like eleven loaves of bread with horns." For four seasons, Ellen kept company with a group of desert bighorn sheep she called the Blue Door Band; "EATING STONE: Imagination and the Loss of the Wild" is a record of that year, written in Ellen's characteristically graceful and good-natured prose, as "spirited and intelligent, as vivid and vibrant as the land itself is dry and spare." (Boston Globe).
Join us at Patagonia as friends and authors, Nora Gallagher, Maile Meloy and Cullen Gerst read from Ellen's latest book. Ellen, who wrote four books and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for one, "Anthropology of Turquoise," died in November of last year just after completing her manuscript.
This event is free. Light refreshments will be served.
